The rack mountable MediaVault U320-RX features a dual channel Ultra 320 interface capable of sustaining over 200 MB/sec - per channel - in HDT mode (High Definition Turbo mode insures 200 Mbytes per second Data Rate, with reduction of capacity). That's more than enough to support 10-bit HD capture and playback.
The redesigned, industrial looking chassis supports 10 removable drives. The ultimate in high speed video storage, the MediaVault U320-RX is available in capacities from 1.25 TB up to 4 TB. Multiple fans and two removable 300 watt power supplies provide cooling and serious power to spare.

The MediaVault U320-RX is populated with 10 removable disk drives and can be configured for RAID 0 (performance) or RAID 3 (protected) operation. In RAID 0 mode all drives are used for storage and maximum performance. When in RAID 3 mode, one drive per channel is used for "parity" information, so performance and capacities are diminished about 20%. In RAID 3 mode if a drive fails your footage will still be there - and you can continue working with no degradation in performance. Simply replace the failed drive when convenient and the unit will reconstruct the parity data.

NOTE FOR LINUX USERS: Some Very impressive performance has been achieved using the latest Linux kernel (2.6.6) and the MediaVault U320-RX. Over 460MB/sec on a standard high performance motherboard.

The MediaVault U320-RX is true Plug-and-Play. The next-generation on-board programmable RAID controllers takes care of formatting, striping and all RAID functions - while appearing as two single HUGE disk drives to the operating system. The controller also provides built in diagnostics to monitor drive performance and health.

The MediaVault line of product uses 68HD SCSI connectors, when mating with ATTO's line of SCSI host adapters you would need:

UL3S - 68HD to VHDCI
UL3D - 68HD to VHDCI
UL4S - 68HD to 68HD
UL4D - 68HD to VHDCI

If you intend to daisy chain serval MediaVaults together, you would need 68HD to 68HD.

Each MediaVault U320 undergoes at least 20 hours of continuous testing before it ships. We scan each and every sector of each and every disk multiple times to make sure there are no "bad spots".

the majority of the problems can be diagnosed in the field with the supplied diagnostic cable and built in diagnostics.

The connection between your computer and the MediaVault is U320 SCSI. Internally, the Huge MediaVault uses 5 or 10 IDE drives, depending on the model.

In video applications, IDE drives are actually better than SCSI. They have fewer parts, use less power, and run cooler than SCSI drives.

With the MediaVault U320, you don't need to manage striping software. You can transfer the MediaVault U320 from one system to another easily. And since it takes only a single SCSI ID, it's much more expandable than a JBOD.

The drive family in all the Huge Media Vault Dual Max products is the same, and they will all work with CineWave.
