Kaiser Wolfenbüttel Book Reflector 45N 5780
The Wolfenbüttel Book Reflector 45N is designed for the digital reproduction of damageable historic books and documents in critical condition, especially books that cannot be opened beyond 45°. All movements are manual for maximum protection of the book, and the modular concept lets the user choose camera and lighting.
The open book rests in a V-shaped cradle. A V-shaped wedge, with a glass plate on one side and a mirror on the other, is moved manually into the book and locked; the side rests are then brought to the cover at exactly 45°. The glass flattens the page and its mirror image is photographed or scanned; suitable software converts it into a true-sided image. It was developed by Kaiser Fototechnik, Image Engineering Cologne and the Herzog August Library of Wolfenbüttel.
