Rupert Neve Designs 5025 Shelford Dual Mic Pre
The Shelford Dual Mic Pre (5025) puts two of the Shelford Channel's preamplifiers in a single rack unit. Like Rupert Neve's designs from his Little Shelford era, it uses a custom step-up transformer on the microphone input that provides the first 15 dB of gain and contributes to its bold, mid-focused sound; with MuMetal shielding of the input transformer, the preamp is flat from below 10 Hz to above 60 kHz.
The Silk/Texture circuit adjusts the harmonic content of the output stage from quite transparent to nearly ten times the colour of the vintage modules, in Silk Red (highs and high mids) or Silk Blue (lows and low mids) mode. The custom output transformers provide a Main output (+26 dBu) and a -6 dB output (+20 dBu), so the preamp can be driven into transformer saturation without clipping converters or other devices further down the chain.
