Rupert Neve Designs 5035 Shelford Channel
The Shelford Channel is built around Rupert Neve's transformer-gain class-A microphone preamplifier, a "best-of-the-classics" inductor EQ, a diode bridge compressor and variable Silk saturation, evolving the technologies of classic modules such as the 1073, 1064 and 2254. As in his Little Shelford designs, the preamp uses a directly coupled input transformer that provides gain itself; the DI input uses the same topology as the RNDI, with a passive THRU output.
The three-band inductor EQ has a 1064-style low band usable as shelf or peak, a 1073-based mid band and a hybrid high band, with ±15 dB of boost or cut. The diode bridge compressor recreates the tone of the vintage 2254 with lower noise, more flexible timing and full-wave side-chain detection. Silk Red or Blue with Texture adjusts the harmonic content of the custom output transformer, which provides a Line output and a separate -6 dB output for driving it harder without clipping the next device.
