The Supermicro SuperChassis 946SE1C-R1K66JBOD is a 4U, extremely high-density storage chassis with 60 top-loading 3.5" SAS/SATA 12 Gb/s hot-swap drive bays with tool-less trays and drive LEDs. Single-expander backplanes support SAS3/SAS2 drives with 12 Gb/s throughput, and four mini-SAS HD ports allow internal/external cascading for high performance, high availability or redundancy. It is designed for cloud backup, data replication and high-density archive storage.
An IPMI port provides remote power on/off and system monitoring, with NTP time synchronisation and RTC battery backup. Power comes from 1600 W (1+1) redundant high-efficiency supplies, and five 80 x 38 mm hot-swap rear PWM fans provide cooling. A front LCD panel for status and error information is available as an option. Qualified SAS controllers are the AOC-SAS3-9300-8E HBA and the AOC-SAS3-9380-8E RAID controller.
