The Laowa 24mm f/14 2X Macro Probe is a probe lens that focuses from 2:1 macro to infinity, with an immersive wide-angle "bug eye" perspective. Most macro lenses have long focal lengths (60 to 120 mm) and isolate the subject from its surroundings; the 24mm Probe focuses as close as 2 cm at 2:1 while its 85° angle of view includes the environment, and the wide-angle design gives much greater depth of field at short distances than telephoto macro lenses. This suits both studio table-top work and nature photography.
The 40 cm tubular barrel lets you bring the front of the lens very close to the subject while staying at a distance, for example with shy animals or dangerous snakes, and its 20 mm diameter fits into tight spaces such as between candles on a cake or inside the neck of a bottle; the slim barrel also leaves more light on the subject. An LED ring on the tip helps with focusing, and the front of the barrel is waterproof (non-removable cover) for shooting just below the water surface, also protecting against dust and fine sand. It covers both full-frame and Super35 sensors and weighs only 474 g. The LED is powered by an external battery (not included). This "Cine-mod" version, designed for video, has standard geared focus and aperture rings and includes a control cable with variable output and a sturdy aluminium carrying case. This version has the Arri PL mount.
