The Laowa Proteus 85mm T2 belongs to the Proteus 2X Anamorphic series, a range of professional anamorphic lenses for Super35 sensors with a constant 2x squeeze and T2 aperture across all focal lengths. The front anamorphic design combines modern sharpness and contrast, even wide open, with the classic anamorphic look: elongated elliptical bokeh, characteristic flares and a gradual focus fall-off. On 4:3 and 6:5 sensors it gives 2.66:1 or 2.4:1 after de-squeeze, which can be cropped to 2.39:1 with minimal loss; the squeeze stays the same at every focus distance, avoiding "anamorphic mumps".

This version has the more neutral silver flare, whose tint changes with the light source; the series is also available with blue, amber and silver flare. Focus breathing is low, so rack focus keeps the framing stable. The cine housing has the same gear positions on all Proteus lenses, 0.8 mod focus and iris gears, a 300° focus throw with feet scale, back focus adjustment and a 114 mm front with 105 mm filter thread for common matte boxes. The PL mount is fitted and an interchangeable Canon EF mount is included.
