The Laowa Aurogon turns a camera into a microscope. Most microscope objectives are not designed to cover full frame and need intermediate or scaling optics, with loss of quality in the corners; the Aurogon is designed for image quality from the centre to the edges of a full-frame sensor. Its modular design combines a universal front lens module with interchangeable 10x, 20x, 35x and 50x magnification tubes mounted directly on the camera, so the magnification can be changed while the front lens stays in place.

The working distance is fixed at 20 mm for all four magnifications, so the setup and lighting (flash or continuous) do not have to be rearranged when changing tube, and the light can be kept at a distance to avoid heat damaging the subject. Markings on the barrel show 8 numerical aperture values from 0.5 to 0.15 to manage depth of field and image quality. The apochromatic design controls chromatic aberration and helps focus stacking. The system can be used both vertically and horizontally. This kit has the ARRI PL mount.
