The Laowa Magic Format Converter (MFC) lets full-frame Nikon G lenses be used on Fujifilm GFX medium format cameras such as the GFX 50S. Unlike a normal GFX adapter, which mounts the lens without changing its image circle, so that many full-frame lenses do not fully cover the GFX sensor and show strong vignetting or loss of quality at the edges, the MFC enlarges the image circle.
It takes advantage of the short flange distance of mirrorless cameras and contains a patented optical system that expands the image circle from 35 mm full frame to the size of the GFX sensor (44 x 33 mm). It is particularly useful with ultra-wide-angle lenses, which tend to vignette heavily on GFX, giving a wider angle of view without having to crop out unusable corners.
